Skullgirls News of the week! 5-23-2022

Combo Breaker is here!

ITS FINALLY HERE! Combo Breaker is happening all weekend long, and is one of the biggest events for the SGC. For those who don’t know or new to the scene, Combo Breaker is our Super Bowl for all things competitive in the Skullgirls scene. They have been hosting Skullgirls since 2016, and has been our go to place for everyone to come and compete. We had competitors come from all over the world to compete as far as Japan, Brazil, Europe, and so much more! This year’s Combo Breaker is going to be a bit more insane as its the first CB for the Skullgirls scene since 2019. We all been talking about how we all can’t wait to see each other again, and that time has finally come. As said prior in the last issue, be sure to tune in this weekend for all things Skullgirls for Combo Breaker.

Our schedule will be posted later on tonight, and or tomorrow on our twitter page! We also might be streaming some late night Salty Suite matches live from CB! So be on the look out on our twitch, and twitter for live updates.

Valentine has a fresh coat of paint!

Earlier this week, it was announced from Hidden Variable Studios that Valentine has been slightly updated with her design as seen below.

We have big news! Everyone's favorite ninja nurse is getting a small design update!

Valentine’s cross shaped iconography will be replaced with a new shuriken design, and she’ll get a new pastel pink color.

In the posting on Skullheart forums regarding why the change of the cross to a shrunken design, Hidden Variable Studios states:

It all comes down to Valentine’s crosses. Long time Skullgirls fans may recall a similar situation many years ago when Valentine’s red crosses were hastily updated to their current fuchsia design to avoid potential legal issues. As Skullgirls continues to grow and with more exciting opportunities than ever on the horizon, we’re finally in a position where we can take the time to update her design with the care and effort it deserves. Going forward, Valentine’s colored cross shaped iconography will be replaced with a new pointed shuriken design, and she’ll get a new pastel pink color. (Her eye color and pupil shape will remain unchanged) This change will mean that at some point in the future every frame of Valentine animation in Skullgirls Mobile and Skullgirls 2nd Encore will be updated with the new design, along with any story mode art or other art pieces included in the Digital Art Compendium. Other characters that feature this cross shape like Ileum and the Last Hope will also be updated.

This change will take some time to implement, and we won’t see these changes right away. As the game is getting more popular and the more eyes are on it, there might be some revisions to the game as you can see with new characters, new voice lines, and new story lines being added.
